Trayvon & The Others!

The forgotton: Senseless Crimes Against Innocent Unarmed People.

Trayvon Martin

The Trayvon Martin case is sweeping the nation right now, justifiably so. What a haneous crime committed against an unarmed unassuming teenager. Trayvon was visiting his Father & Stepmother when he decided to go to the store at the halftime mark of the NBA all-star game. Upon leaving the store armed with a can of Arizona Iced Tea and a pack of Skittles candy. Trayvon was then approched by George Zimmerman (Neighborhood Watchman) who was apparently following him in his car. While on the phone with the Sanford Police Dept. he continued to follow Trayvon until and apparent confrontation had them engaged in a tussle depending who you believe. What is know for sure is that this young man was killed by a psycho. Not the type of crazy that allows you to plead temporary insanity either. Trayvon was killed and his killer was let go and has remained at large still without being charged. Trayvon however isn’t the only one who has not only fell victim to a senseless crime/murder and then only to be followed by a poor judgement by law enforcement and the criminal justice system. Let’s hope and pray the the killer or killers of Trayvon and the following victims are brought to justice. Even if it s a police officer.

Kendrec Lavelle McDade:

Location: Pasadena, California

Date: March 29th, 2012 1:13 pm

Description of Crime: Fake 911 Call Led Cops To Shoot Innocent College Student Dead

A fake 911 call made by Oscar Carillo, 26, led Pasadena, California police officers to kill an innocent college student whom they thought was guilty of robbery, reports the Daily Mail.

According to Pasadena Police Chief Philip Sanchez, the erroneous chain of events and tragic end result was ignited by that phony phone call and accounts for the mindset of the officers, who wound up killing 19-year-old Kendrec McDade because they thought he was armed with a gun.

When two officers spotted McDade and a 17-year-old unidentified accomplice walking along Orange Grove, they approached them. Reportedly, McDade ran from the officers until another policeman used his cruiser to corner him in an alley. Police said that McDade allegedly made a motion towards the waist of his pants and that’s when they opened fire.

McDade, who was a college student and football star, died as a result of the gunshot wounds. When police questioned Carillo about his phone call to 911, he admitted that his plea for help was partly fake. He said he had made up his story about the suspects being armed in order to speed up police response. Investigators believe that Carrillo knew the two suspects. Carrillo said that he recognized them in part because they patronized the cellular store at which he is employed. As the investigation progresses, detectives have now determined that there are many inconsistencies to Carillo’s story. One thing is clear: both McDade and the other teen were unarmed. Investigators never found a backpack or a laptop on either of the men.

Outcome: To be determined investigation is still in it’s infant stages.

Commentary: WOW!

It was then said that Sean Bell attempted to drive off anyway disregarding the officers’ command. As Sean drove off another unmarked vehicle collided with his car and then police reports claim that Sean Bell looked as if he were reaching for a weapon and they let off a fuselage of bullets 50 in all. Sean Bell was shot 4 times and died instantly

Although the officers were acquitted, the three of them and their commanding officer were fired or forced to resign on March 24, 2012.

Commentary: Just plain sad, this man was to be married the next day!

Name: Amadou Diallo

Amadou Diallo

Location: Bronx, NY

Date: February 24th, 1999

Description of Crime: Amadou was a 23-year-old Guinean immigrant in New York City who was shot and killed on February 4, 1999 by four New York City Police Department plain-clothed officers: Sean Carroll, Richard Murphy, Edward McMellon and Kenneth Boss. The four officers fired a total of 41 shots. The shooting took place at 1157 Wheeler Avenue in the Soundview section of The Bronx.

Outcome: The four were part of the now-defunct Street Crimes Unit. All four officers were acquitted of all charges at trial in Albany, New York.

Commentary: This one just rocks me to the core this man was killed for without the presence of any weapons he was armed with only his wallet.

Name: Abner Louima

Abner Louima

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Date: August 9th, 1997

Description of Crime: Louima was arrested by police becuase he was simply one of the people who was on the scene of a fight between two women outside the club that Louima was just partying at. The police were called to the scene and in the mix of the melee one of the officers claim that Louima “sucker punched” him. He was arrested by officers Justin Volpe, Charles Schwarz, Thomas Bruder, and Thomas Wiese, among others. Promptly taken back to the 70th Precinct in Brooklyn and brutally assaulted by the officers and he was even sodomized with a plunger which occured in the bathroom.

Outcome: Louima’s justice came in the form of a $8.75 million verdict against the city of NY. Also officer Justin Volpe was sentenced to 30 years without parole officer Charles Schwarz was sentenced to five years in prison after initially being sentenced to 15 years. His conviction was reduced after it was reported that Officer Volpe lied about his accomplices. Officers Thomas Bruder, Michael Bellomo and Thomas Wiese  were all indicted but not convicted of any crimes, it was stated that the reason was because of insuffient evidence.

Commentary: This case was extremely difficult and different in ways than the others in the blog due to the fact that the victim wasn’t dead. He got some form of justice. Yes he was rewarded with the highest amount of money ever given in NYC for police brutality. However all of the officers involved were not charged. I feel that if you witness one of your fellow officers breaking the law and you do nothing to stop him/them you’re just as guilty.

Name: Rekia Boyd

Location: Chicago, Il

Date: 3-21-2012

Description of Crime: An off-duty detective rolled down his car window and asked a group of people gathered near Douglas Park to quiet down. In response, police say, a 39-year-old man pointed a gun at the officer, who drew his own weapon and fired. The bullets hit the alleged gunman in the hand and Rekia Boyd, who was unarmed, in the head as she stood nearby. Witnesses said that no one pulled a gun on the off-duty officer, and that the alleged gunman was actually holding a cell phone instead. Rekia Boyd died in the hospital the following day.

Outcome: Still under investigation

Commentary: Okay because some random person drives up to you and yells out be quiet you’re supposed to listen to him? This off-duty officer was power tripping and because he probably received a less than welcomed response from the crowd he decided to take matters into own hand. Coward i hope this guy receives the maximum punishment for killing an innocent person.

Name: Danroy Henry

Danroy Henry

Location: Mt, Pleasant, NY

Date: October 17th, 2010

Description of Crime: Police from Mount Pleasant said in a statement that one of their officers approached Henry’s vehicle, which was parked in a fire lane, and Henry sped away when the officer knocked on the driver’s window. Then a police officer from Pleasantville, another section of Mount Pleasant, then tried to stop the car, according to police. But the driver, identified by Pace as Henry, kept accelerating and struck the officer who landed on the hood of the vehicle. The officer on the hood of the car, along with another officer, then shot at Henry according to a press release from the Mount Pleasant, N.Y. Police Department. According to police, Henry’s car passed another police officer, who attempted to grab the police officer from the hood of the car. but the vehicle plowed into the second officer. “With the officer clinging to the hood of the car it continued to accelerate; the Pleasantville officer then fired at the driver,” the press release stated.”The suspect vehicle continued in the fire lane heading directly towards another Mount Pleasant Officer, who also fired at the vehicle. The vehicle then struck a parked Mount Pleasant police car coming to a stop.” Two people in the vehicle were shot. Henry and the other person who was shot were transported to the hospital, where Henry was pronounced dead.

Outcome: A Federal Grand jury (somehow) determined there was no wrong doing in the case on behalf of the MT. Pleasant police dept or it’s officers involved in the shooting death.

Commentary: How many more parents out there have to suffer the loss of one of their children at the hands of the very same people who’s job it is to protect us. Especially when after the tragedy occurs it’s played out in the public the family gets no solice in the fact that now that the media is involved they become infomation hounds and will report any info they feel is news worthy and most times has nothing to do with the case. A complete smack in the face.

Name: James Byrd

James Byrd Jr.

Byrd was pulled along for about three miles as the truck swerved from side to side. Byrd, who remained conscious throughout most of the ordeal, was killed when his body hit the edge of aculvert, severing his right arm and head. The murderers drove on for another mile before dumping his torso in front of an African-American cemetery in Jasper.

Outcome: Lawrence Brewer was executed by lethal injection for this crime by the state of Texas on September 21, 2011. John King remains on Texas’ death row while appeals are pending. While Berry was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Commentary: Racism of any kind is diplorable. This is such a sad, tragic and unthinkable set of events that lead to the murder of James Byrd Jr. Justice was done for the most part in this case we’re just waiting for one more appeal filed by John King. Hopefully he too will be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

It needs to be said the the killing of any innocent person is dispicable. Too many people are dying for no reason. Whether the crime is Black on Black (subject for another day) Hated Related, Gang related or Police Brutality. This needs to stop it goes without saying that Trayvon Martin’s killer needs to be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. How are you standing your ground when you’re following someone who is minding their very own business. #tellmehowilooknow.
