Memo To Michael Jordan: Step Your Shoe Game Up!

Memo to Michael Jordan.

Air Jordan “Jumpman Logo”

Dear Mike you are without a doubt the greatest player in nba history. No one even comes close to you in my book. You set the standard as to exactly what a franchise player should be. Throughout the course of your esteemed career you’ve set and broke many records you changed the game in many ways. You are the ultimate winner, consament pro, many players adults & children look up to you. Who didn’t want to be like Mike?

You are synomous with winning. Your passion for the game is unmatched. Competition is what drives you. Whether it be on the basketball court, the golf course or dare I say even baseball Field. Even as a Knick fan growing up I supported you in many ways. I didn’t root for your team(s), I never brought or wore your jersey, but I did however wear and continue to wear your signature Air Jordan sneakers. That’s why it’s going to break my heart saying what I’m about to say. It all comes from a good place, trust me.

Your Airness: Please take what i’m about to say as my opinion based on facts and personal feeling mixed in as well.

Mike you & Nike set the standard when it comes to the “Signature Shoe” the Air Jordan line has been a tremendous success since it’s inception in 1985. You have been retired from the NBA since 2003 and your shoes are still as popular as ever. Well…that maybe a lil skewed because in fact the last 3 releases from the “Air Jordan” signature line have been very lackluster. In more ways than one. Overall design of the shoe, Price is too high, Questionable colorways. There are so many issues revolving the success or lack thereof of your shoe. I often wonder about the parcipitation of the athlete when it comes to their shoes. I know that MJ is fully immersed in this process because we get to see the DVD and videos on youtube detailing the process. However i feel that the design of the Brand has suffered tremendously in the last few years.

After hearing the news that the “Air Jordan” line will stop after shoe #23 i was a bit confused to see them release another Air Jordan shoe not “Brand Jordan” but instead released as “Air Jordan 2009”. The popularity i was speaking of was referencing the continued release of  “Air Jordan Retro” these are at a fever pitch every model that is released is sold out in mere days. However those yearly releases of the 2nd incarnation of the “Air Jordan” line is faltering,

AJ 2009-

Air Jordan 2009

These shoes were actually kind of hot (To Me) they were inspired by the Olympics. These shoes didn’t sell too well, & left most of us confused about their true nature. Was it really a Jordan shoe? Would Mike actually wear these shoes if he were playing today? Did Jordan Buy his rights from Nike? Is there any involvement form Nike? More questions than Answers.

AJ 2010-

Air Jordan 2010

These Jordans on the surface VIA the internet looked to be real hot (AT 1ST) but when i tried them on in the store i fell completely out of love for them. Eventhough i brought i wore them a grand total of 4 times before i just passed them on to my oldest son. D-Wade was the Primary endorser for this shoe but still fell flat. Great idea but the design was flawed with it’s waffle like feel to them didn’t feel sleek.

AJ 2011-

Air Jordan 2011

Another D-Wade endorsed Jordan shoe these were much better in overall design. Maybe because there really wasn’t much to the actual design, nothing cutting edge that caught my eye. It was just starting to feel like Jordan was giving the greenlight to anything. These didn’t do to  well in my city either. Thus beginning a habbit of not buying anymore New Jordans (Post 23 era shoes) until they return back to their roots. I did not buy these at all. They also started trying to add gimmicks to the shoe like extra or interchangable soles.

AJ 2012-

Air Jordan 2012

Ugh! by far the worst pair of Air Jordans i ever seen. I absolutely hate these sneakers, i hate the extra high sole attachment. This shoe lacks swagger, style. I can’t speak about comfort because i never tried them on i can’t believe they released this under the official Air Jordan line instead of the Brand Jordan line (the more affordable, cheaper put out anything under the sun line). Can’t believe Tinker Hatfield designed these and MJ approved this i’m saddened by this.

Brand Jordan: Now i understand fully the purpose of the creation of the Brand Jordan line. To provide affordable “Air Jordan Quality” sneakers for those who can’t really afford the actual line. This however remains to be a major issue with the Both lines. It seems as if Nike/Jordan are releasing anything now a days. They are in effect watering down their very own product. With such lame styles, designs & colorways. Please stop releasing low level sneakers. Furthermore Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade & Chris Paul all deserve better as well. Melo has had 8 installments of his line and only 1 was stylish. D Wade’s shoes are lame. Chris Paul sneakers look like a bunch of zig zag lines and a thrown together product.

STEP IT UP JORDAN, PLEASE COMING FROM A DIEHARD FAN TAKE US BACK TO THE OLD DAYS WHEN WE SAW THE NEWEST EDITION OF AIR JORDANS AND WERE HYPED UP JUST TO BE THE 1ST ONE ON OUR BLOCK WITH A PAIR. THEY WERE STYLISH, SEXY, INNOVATIVE & CUTTING EGDE. I BELIEVE YOU CAN RETURN BACK INTO THE LEADER IN SHOE DESIGN AND SALES. FOAMPOSITES, LEBRONS & AIR MAX HAVE NOW BECOME THE SHOW OF CHOICE FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE. MY OVERALL BELIEF IN YOU WILL KEEP ME HONEST BUT I NEED FOR YOU TO I CAN’T BELIEVE IM SAYING THIS BUT. STEP YOUR SHOE GAME UP!

How do you feel about the Air Jordan Shoe Line? let us know until next time #tellmehowilooknow.

  1. The downfall actually started from Air jordan 15. Most people only like Jordans 1-14. I personally like em all. I did pass on the Jodans 09,10, and 2011 but the Air jordans 2012, I actually like em. Jordan does need to step up the shoe game. Even the beloved retros are coming out with very low quality. the worst yet has to be the air jordan 4 varsity red that just dropped. As a die hard fan I still will continue to support Jordan brand but, He definitely needs to step up the Shoe Game.

  2. the newer models are great performance wise. even though they may not have the “fashion appeal” of earlier models-still great BASKETBALL shoes.Personally i do own the 2010 and 2011 and some of the most comfortable BB shoes i own!!!

  3. The Jordan 2012 are really incredible performance wise. Keep in mind that all Jordans were geared to be basketball court shoes, not casual shoes. Now, I wear Jordan retros casually. But I can’t help but get a little angry when people bash on the newer models when they’re quite blatantly geared toward performance. And the retros are not all necessarily getting to be awful quality. For example, the cement 4s and cavs 4s were better quality than the military blue 4. I can honestly say that they’re no longer the standard in quality footwear. Knowing how little it takes to make each shoe though makes it very hard to justify paying their high prices though.
